K is for Keep Sweet

Keep Sweet

Keep sweet he said to me.
He didn’t know what it means.
To be a woman in this world,
a Woman in this place.
Hair pulled back,
skirt pulled tight,
smile faked,
pretending everything’s alright.
Keep sweet he said to me.
And so I released,
all the tension,
all the things frustrating to me:

I’m no Girl Friday.
No nine to five.
No secretary in the pool
who can simply type.
A Bachelors under my belt,
a Masters on its way,
I ask questions because
I see how things can change.
I know the intimate details of your life
I’ve called and spoken to your wife-
and you can’t remember my name?
This girl, who makes sure you get on that plane?
I’d begin this curse with ‘good sir’
except for, you see, you are not good
to her, or she, or me.

For the month of April I’ve committed to writing 26 poems, falling into the Alphabet.  To learn more about my project, check out my introduction.  To learn more about the A-to-Z Challenge visit www.a-to-zchallenge.com.
