V is for Rising Valley Mornings

Rising Valley Mornings

Tall stacks billowing smoke
as the tap houses fill with
people and syrup.

The vines are trimmed one last time
the left over bits
burned in the back fourty-nine.

Soon we’ll see buds bloom
birds in trees
and summer come.

But this cold morn
let us enjoy
all that spring has sprung.

The last of old winter’s nip
bites beneath
the crunch of grass.

We tell our children
to listen for
the daffodils laugh.

As the sun
pushes past
the rocky ridge.

Sun rises in foggy valleys
that fill with life
as spring ignites.

For the month of April I’ve committed to writing 26 poems, falling into the Alphabet.  To learn more about my project, check out my introduction.  To learn more about the A-to-Z Challenge visit www.a-to-zchallenge.com.
