V is for Rising Valley Mornings

Rising Valley Mornings

Tall stacks billowing smoke
as the tap houses fill with
people and syrup.

The vines are trimmed one last time
the left over bits
burned in the back fourty-nine.

Soon we’ll see buds bloom
birds in trees
and summer come.

But this cold morn
let us enjoy
all that spring has sprung.

The last of old winter’s nip
bites beneath
the crunch of grass.

We tell our children
to listen for
the daffodils laugh.

As the sun
pushes past
the rocky ridge.

Sun rises in foggy valleys
that fill with life
as spring ignites.

A is for Alphabet Soup

Alphabet Soup

Alphabet soup calls to me
As the tulips bloom and the meadowlarks call
I dream of the Fall
With its warm sweaters and hot tea

Guarantees of rain storms
Early nights spent in
With pine burning fires
And you

But this is Spring
The bright sunshine
The growing grass
An end to winters discontent

Where garden salads and melon slices
Appear on Lenten tables
And we gather with those who mean the most
Or so we tell ourselves

I like the Spring
A prelude to a Summer full
Of friends and fun and driftwood fires
Built on warm beach evening nights

I like the Spring
But today I daydream
Of Alphabet Soup
And you

Five Favorite Friday: March 28, 2014

Oh Fridays, how sweetly you come.

  1. Telecommuting.  Oh yeah, a paid day in a hoodie and jeans.  And I’m able to keep an eye on things at home.
  2. Spring rain storms- I think the kids on Spring break here in Oregon hate that it’s been pouring all week, but I love it.

  3. The prospect of a weekend, unscheduled.
  4. Veronica Mars (Season One)- though I was the right demographic when it was on TV, I wasn’t intrested.   I thought I’d watch some on Amazon Prime with the new Kickstarter funded movie in theaters, and now I’m hooked.  Totally fabulous.  (this is probably where a fair share of my rainy unscheduled weekend will go!)
  5. A most excellent online community.  I had a brain injury hard week, and everyday I got to read a mailbox full of interesting things from interesting people.  I love you guys!

What do you loves this week?

Happy Friday! Love, Mae
